Working in an office...sort of

Things have been slow in the employment department, but I have had several auditions this week. Fingers crossed,  I'll book something. Today I'm playing a designer in a real office. That's right, folks. There aren't any cameras here. I've been paid to (pretend to) be an actual concert goer, audience member, book signing attendee and now...office worker. I must say, if I did have to work in an office, this wouldn't be too shabby. It's one of these hip and swanky loft-like spaces...really sunlit and gorgeous with beautiful furniture and tasty coffee. Daryl is "working" with me along with another friend of ours. I feel so sneaky.

Ikea

I love Ikea. Our apartment definitely wouldn't be as livable without it. Shopping there can be a little challenging when you're carless...so it's a good thing we can't really fit much else in our apartment. Today we took the train to Brooklyn and caught a free shuttle that took us to the store. I'm not gonna lie- the #1 reason we went there was to eat meatballs.

Yummy dinner, dessert and beverages for 2 people, for 10 bucks? Yes!!

We also needed a new slipcover for our couch. It's weird; the patterned and colored slipcovers hover around the $150 range. The white ones are $11. We get the white one, but it eventually turns gray and gross. It's actually cheaper to buy a new cover than it is to have one laundered...not cool. Anyway, because it was on clearance for $9, and because I was successful in persuading my husband, I introduce you to ournew(ly recovered )loveseat:

It's quite pink. You can't really tell so much from the picture, but it's a shade of pink that a six year old would want her bedroom walls to be. If I had to give it a name, I would call it 'cotton candy pink.' It's...girly. Larry likes it. Daryl is not so sure. I think it's fun. It makes me smile.

Planting Stuff

I bought these mini plant kits at Target last year and completely forgot about them until yesterday. They were unearthed during a rare cleaning spree. This is my version of gardening...

I planted basil, oregano and zinnias. I'm not convinced that they'll actually grow, but we'll see. I've never  been into gardening, but it appeals to me now. I'm mostly interested in planting things that I can eat.

A year goes by fast

It was a good year.

We celebrated by spending a lazy Sunday together. After having brunch at a lovely restaurant called Park Avenue, we watched a ridiculous number of Lost episodes and skipped dinner because we were so full from brunch. It was a wonderful, rainy day... Daryl surprised me with a Wii/Wii Fit. It's in the mail and I'm so excited about it. This will be good for streaming more Lost episodes and for losing those cruise ship pounds. I'm looking forward to another great year.

Anniversary Dessert: spicy cocoa ice cream with a cinnamon mousse filled (chocolate) box. Mmmmm.
Bonus points for being complimentary.

Bermuda

We were totally on tv and famous...for a week...on the Norwegian Spirit. We celebrated our birthdays/anniversary by taking a 7 day cruise from Bermuda to Boston last week. We almost missed it because our bus got stuck in traffic on the way to Boston. Thankfully, we got there with 15 minutes to spare. On one of the first nights of our trip, we won the NCL Newlywed Game. And they taped it and aired it repeatedly (on the ship's tv channel in the cabins). People were really excited to recognize us. It was hilarious and weird.

Our trip was as fun and relaxing as we hoped it would be. We didn't check our cell phones or email for a week. We read books. We scooted around Bermuda on a moped. We collectively gained six pounds.
